Barcelona Plan For Messi Return

Barcelona will play in the Europa League in 2023 but have set themselves the goal of convincing arguably the greatest player in history to join them next summer.

According to Sport, they are planning a transfer for Lionel Messi in January. Amid concerns that they may have to cut their spending next summer in order to work around La Liga's salary caps, Barcelona may attempt to sign the Argentine while currently being able to pay wages without any restrictions.

As the article points out, they would have to find a way or a pot of money to convince Paris Saint-Germain to let Messi go mid-season. Although Messi is primarily focused on the World Cup, he would also need to be convinced to leave Paris mid-season.

All signs point to this being a highly unlikely deal. The report itself is somewhat pessimistic and if Barcelona's directors are indeed considering a move this winter, it represents the ultimate faith in their ability as sellers. They may be better served by focusing their attention on more attainable goals
